I miss you mom.

Thanks for the gift of the talents I have.

Thanks for steering me away from the call of the streets –
and instead to the arts, sports, and the many, many other wondrous things I have had the privilege and pleasure to experience.

I love you!

I loved your spirit. You had this spirit of unique creativity. I remember you had this big basket of old keys, and you kept it covered with this little square of brown fabric that was almost like a placemat. You cherished those keys. I felt pride in that collection radiating off of you when you showed it to me. I remember you saying that some of the keys were from places you had lived, and others were just “interesting” to you. I remember thinking that keys was an odd thing to collect, and I absolutely loved it.

You taught me me how to count sheep. I had heard about the concept, and I think I was maybe 9 or 10 when this happened. I was not a counter of sheep; but you were. You explained to me on one of the cherished nights I spent with you how it’s not about counting the sheep so much as it’s about picturing them and imagining them, and what do you know... I fell asleep soon after we started counting.

I’m just so grateful to have had the chance to know you, be a part of your life, and have you in mine. My memories, and hopefully a bit of that odd-ish creative spirit, will live on in me.

Thank you!

Today, we celebrate the amazing woman that you were and the pure radiance you brought into our lives.

I've always admired your vibrant personality and your joyful spirit. You were so upbeat and fun to be around. And you had this incredible knack for making even the simplest of things memorable. Like back when you'd take David and I on trips to McDonald's for Happy Meals. Remember how you'd collect all the little toys for us? Those were the best!

You would even keep Lego sets for us to play with whenever we came to visit and always kept us entertained. (My favorite was the Western set with the Lego cowboys and the campfire! LOL) And I loved how you’d save any artwork we created in a special file. You were so organized and everything had a place.

I especially enjoyed our family trips to the DeKalb Farmers Market, particularly when we’d stop to have lunch at the cafeteria. (Those hot wings were the highlight, every single time!) To this day, I can’t wander those aisles without thinking of you and remembering the times we shared. It’s funny how those normal, day-to-day experiences helped me appreciate the little things and cherish life's simple pleasures.

There were so many things that made you special. I remember your signature style always being on point – classic and comfy, complete with a crossbody bag and a pair of Keds. You were the epitome of effortless chic and you rocked the minimal look like nobody else could!

And who could forget that delicious twist you put on mac & cheese, using spaghetti instead of elbow noodles? It was so yummy and so uniquely you!

I could go on, of course. But I just want to say thank you for being the most awesome grandma a kid could ask for. I miss you every day, more than words can express. And even though you’re no longer with us, my happiest memories of you will forever live in my heart.

With all my love,
